And They Said It Would Never Happen!

Breaking News!!

Johan Santana pitches the first no-hitter in NY Mets history!

It only took 50 years and 8020 games to happen but it finally has! A Mets No-Hitter! Thank You Johan Santana! A few no hitter fun facts (not so fun for Mets fans):

7 pitchers have thrown no hitters after leaving the Mets. Tom Seaver (the only other Met to get into the 9th inning with a no-no) Nolan Ryan (7 total, his 4th no-no was on this same date in 1975), Doc Gooden (Yankees), David Cone (Yankees perfect game), Hideo Nomo( before and after), Mike Scott, and Phil Humber (perfect game).

6 pitchers have thrown no hitters against the Mets. Sandy Koufax, Jim Bunning, Bob Moose,
Bill Stoneman, Ed Halicki, and  Darryl Kile all blanked the Mets.

10 pitchers threw no hitters before joining the Mets. Don Cardwell, Warren Spahn, Dean Chance, Dock Ellis, John Candelaria, Bret Saberhagen, Scott Erickson (2 starts for the Mets in 2004), Kenny Rogers (perfect game), Al Leiter,  and Hideo Nomo (before and after playing for the Mets).

4 Mets players have broken up no hitters in the ninth inning of games. Eddie Bressoud, Bud Harrelson, Ron Hodges, and Hubie Brooks broke pitchers dreams in the last frame.

There have been 35 one hitters in Mets history.

The San Diego Padres are the only team left with no no-hitters to their credit.

Thank You Johan Santana!
